Eyelid Surgery in Miami, FL
Schedule A ConsultationThe eyes are one of the most alluring features of the face and play an important part in conveying our feelings towards others. Unfortunately, the natural aging process tends to negatively affect the skin and muscles that surround the eyes, which often causes people to look older than they actually are and makes them feel less confident about themselves.
To improve the appearance of the eye area and restore a more youthful look to the rest of the face, individuals typically desire an eyelid lift. Also known as “blepharoplasty,” individuals typically undergo this procedure to improve the appearance of the eye area and restore a more youthful look to the rest of the face.
As one of the top plastic surgeons in the country, at his Miami office Dr. Leonard Hochstein regularly performs blepharoplasty to correct the following conditions:
- Saggy upper eyelids that impair vision

Eyelid Surgery Procedure
Eyelid lifts are done on an outpatient basis at our state-of-the-art facility in Miami. The entire procedure is performed under general anesthesia and usually takes about two hours to complete, depending on the severity of aging.
Upper Blepharoplasty
Tiny incisions are made in the natural folds of the upper eyelids where excess skin and fat tissue are removed. After the eyelid muscles are repositioned to a more youthful contour, the incisions are closed with sutures.
Lower Blepharoplasty
Incisions are made in the creases below the eyelashes to remove excess skin and fat tissue. Typically, incisions are also placed in the lower eyelids to reduce puffiness and dark circles. After the lower eyelid muscles are lifted to a higher position, the incisions are closed with sutures.
Incisions are strategically placed in the in the folds and creases of the eyelids to make scarring as inconspicuous as possible.
Recovery from Eyelid Lift
After the procedure, bandages and a lubricating ointment will be applied directly to the incisions. During the first couple days, discomfort and swelling can be alleviated using prescribed medication and cold compression. In most cases, patients feel that they can return to work about a week after surgery; however, strenuous exercise and activity should be avoided for at least three weeks or until the incisions fully heal.
Results of Eyelid Lift
Although the final results of an eyelid lift will not be immediately apparent after the eyelid lift is complete, the eyes will appear more alert and youthful over the coming weeks. Patients can expect their results to last for many years as long as they properly protect the eye area from sun exposure.
In many instances, a Phenol/TCA peel is performed along with an eyelid lift to provide even more beneficial results.
