3 Minute Read:
If you live in the Miami area, you know there is an abundance of non-surgical cosmetic treatments available at a number of beauty spas. However, not all of these providers are created equal, and you’ll want to do some research on the facilities and the associated doctors.
To help you determine which medspas to be cautious of, we’ve put together a list of red flags to look for when choosing a provider.
What Should You Avoid When Choosing a Medspa?
Very Cheap Services
When it comes to cosmetic services, the old adage, “you get what you pay for,” remains true.
Choosing a provider based on the best deal you can find on Groupon or in social media ads can produce results that disappoint or, worse yet, extend recovery times and cause adverse reactions.
Constant Practitioner Turnover
When the medspa’s available practitioners are constantly changing, there are problems. Some turnover is to be expected, but when this is the rule and not the exception, you may end up receiving treatments by practitioners who are inexperienced or unqualified.
Ideally, you should find a provider you trust and can rely on who has been at the medspa (or other reputable facilities) for some time.
One-Size-Fits-All Treatments
Some med spas push specific treatments on the majority of patients who come to them. This behavior can mean their skills and services are limited, or they are making the most profit with these procedures.
A good medspa offers custom treatments for clients only after an in-depth consultation and skin evaluation.
Outdated Equipment
You’ll also want to choose a medspa equipped with state-of-the-art technology. Don’t be afraid to ask about specific treatments and the devices they offer, as advanced treatments usually offer the best results and least discomfort.
If your questions are met with vague answers, they are likely avoiding the truth.
A medspa with up-to-date equipment and treatment options will be happy to inform you in detail about the procedures and technology they offer.
Unqualified Medical Practitioners
Most treatments offered at medspas are, in fact, medical procedures that come with a risk of complications and side effects.
Practitioners who don’t have adequate training often deliver unsatisfactory results or potential harm.
A good aesthetician will be happy to answer any questions you may have about their qualifications or your chosen procedure. They should be able to educate you at length about what to expect from the treatment and why it’s a more appropriate choice for you than a different cosmetic option.
How to Start Your Medspa Research
A Google search of medspas in your area will bring up several websites for review.
Go to the about us section of each site and check out the practitioner’s credentials. If they are not posted, move on to the next medspa.
Look at the M.D. who oversees the facility to ensure they are highly reputable. A good plastic surgeon won’t want their name associated with a rinky-dink medspa for fear of potential lawsuits.
The about us page may also provide information about the medspa’s equipment and state-of-the-art services — especially if they offer the latest cosmetic treatments.
If you don’t find it there, try the home page.
