2 Minute Read:
Your eyes can tell the world a lot about you. Your eyes give others an idea of what you’re thinking and feeling as well as give hints about your age.
As you age, the tissue around the eyes begins to lose its firmness and tightness, which can have negative effects on facial contours and even impair vision. An eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) is a cosmetic procedure that can be used to correct issues around the eyes.
An eyelid surgery can help you:
Appear Happier and More Alert
The loss of collagen and elastin in the skin causes skin sagging and fat accumulation around the eyes. This can create the appearance of hooding on the upper eyelids, which may make someone seem to be brooding or overly serious. An upper blepharoplasty is very effective for correcting sagging in the upper eyelids that can impair vision by removing excess skin around the eyes.
Look Less Tired
Bags under the eyes are a tell-tale sign of aging as well as extreme lack of sleep. Drooping lower lids can cause a tired or worn-out appearance that makes you seem less alert than you actually are. A lower blepharoplasty can correct the appearance of bags under the eyes by removing excess skin and fat from the area that creates puffiness.
Restore Youthful Contours
An eyelid surgery works by removing excess skin and fat from the eye area. By removing fat, puffiness and hooding are lessened, and the eyes appear much brighter and more alert. When excess skin is removed from around the eyes, the remaining skin is tightened, and the underlying muscles are repositioned for a more youthful contour. This helps create symmetry and adds a youthful brightness to the eyes.
What Is Recovery Like After an Eyelid Surgery?
One of the many benefits of an eyelid surgery is that it requires a relatively easy recovery. The entire procedure takes about two hours to complete and is done on an outpatient basis. Immediately after the procedure, it’s normal to experience some swelling and soreness around the eyes, but this can usually be handled with prescribed medication and cold compresses. Most patients will be able to return to work and normal activity one week after their surgery.
