3 Minute Read:
You have no doubt heard of liposuction (or even Lipo 360) and how this popular plastic surgery procedure contours the body. However, you may not realize that this is an invasive surgical procedure. To support a successful outcome and optimal recovery, you must follow your doctor’s orders before and after surgery.
What Should I Expect From My Liposuction Recovery?
You will be uncomfortable for about two to three days after a liposuction surgery. Dr. Hochstein will prescribe medication for the pain, and you should take it easy and get lots of rest during this period.
Over the following one to six weeks, you can gradually return to your normal activities. You should be fully healed around week five, and by week six, you should be ready to enjoy your awesome new body.
However, on your way to that milestone, observing these helpful tips will help support healing and enhance your liposuction recovery period.
1. Take Short, Easy Walks
Moving helps with circulation, which promotes healing. So, after 24 hours, it’s time to move. But don’t overdo it. Short, leisurely strolls are a great way to exercise without overexertion.
2. Avoid Smoking for at Least Two Weeks
Smoking limits the oxygenation of your blood and body tissues. It stresses your heart and impacts your blood pressure. These effects may even heighten the risk of post-surgical complications.
Additionally, nicotine restricts blood vessels, raising infection risks and extending the healing process. So, kick that habit throughout your recovery period.
3. Stay Hydrated
Drink 10 to 12 cups of water or other low-calorie drinks daily. It is necessary to replace the water you lost during surgery. This fluid intake also fights water retention—edema—which can be common during recovery.
4. Maintain a Healthy Diet
Good nutrition is essential to healing. Eat lots of lean proteins and fruits and reduce salt and sugar intake. Our team provides additional healthy nutritional guidelines for you to follow.
5. Keep Your Incision Sites Clean
Carefully follow post-surgical instructions about wound care, dressing changes, and how to keep your incisions clean to prevent infection. Don’t deviate from these directions with your own cleaning methods.
6. Wear Loose Clothing
Opt for comfortable, non-restrictive garments during your recovery. Don’t wear anything tight or binding over your specially designed compression garments. Additionally, we recommend choosing clothing that buttons or zips in the front. This way, they will be easy to remove without you having to stretch over your head.
7. Get Lymphatic Massages
Lymphatic drainage massages can reduce pain and speed up healing. This process removes toxin build-up in your lymph nodes. Weekly lymphatic massages can boost your immunity and reduce infection risk.
