3 Minute Read:
A Brazillian Butt Lift (BBL) is a surgical procedure that uses a patient’s natural fat to enhance their buttocks’ size and shape. This procedure has become immensely popular in recent years, and many patients love their results.
In addition to looking at the procedure’s benefits, patients should review information about their recovery prior to their operation.
Below you will find everything you need to know about your BBL recovery and how to manage it successfully.
What Is Important to Know About BBL Recovery?
A BBL procedure is safe and effective, but ideal results rely on patients following proper post-operative instructions. This is especially important for a BBL because the fat cells transferred are alive throughout the treatment.
On the First Day
For the first 24 hours following your surgery, expect to be effectively non-functional at home. You will likely experience significant discomfort during this period and require someone to drive you home and care for you.
Patients should prepare ahead of time to ensure that no critical chores or activities will need to be done during this time. Patients may also wish to prepare food ahead of time or arrange for their caretaker to cook.
During the First Two Weeks
During the first two weeks, you should avoid placing weight or pressure on your buttocks. This means not sitting, lying, or placing stress or weight on your butt during this period. The only exception to this is using the toilet.
This condition is strict because the fat cells will be unstable during this period, and almost any pressure or stress can damage these fat cells. This can result in increased pain and reduced effectiveness of the treatment. To assist your recovery and reduce swelling, you will be required to wear a compression garment. This will help speed your recovery.
If you have to sit upright, you will need to use pillows or specialized seats to accommodate the delicate transferred fat cells. You can purchase Brazilian Butt Lift pillows, although boppy pillows (nursing pillows) may also be appropriate.
During the First Four Weeks
After four weeks, patients can sit on their thighs and use special pillows and other support when necessary. Patients should still strive to keep weight off their buttocks as much as possible, but the restrictions may be somewhat relaxed. Some patients may return to work as early as week two, and almost all will be ready to return to work by the end of week four. Some patients may need to make accommodations to ensure they can sit on their thighs or sit less often during work hours. Light exercise, such as long walks, may be resumed at this time.
After Eight Weeks
By eight weeks post-procedure, most patients are fully recovered and may resume all normal activities. Exercise may be resumed, though care should still be taken when conducting vigorous physical activities. The compression garment will no longer need to be worn.
