The natural aging process can take a significant toll on our facial appearance. Over time, collagen production slows, causing fine lines and wrinkles to develop around the mouth. Facial tissue can weaken and begin to sag. Non-surgical procedures only provide temporary fixes and don’t treat the underlying causes of your facial aging. A facelift surgery is a safe and effective procedure that is designed to restore a firm and youthful facial appearance.

Smooth Fine Line & Wrinkles

Collagen loss is the biggest culprit when it comes to the creation of facial lines, but sun exposure and environmental factors can also lead to unsightly wrinkles. For many patients, wrinkles are most pronounced around the nose and mouth and may also occur around the cheeks. A facelift adjusts and lifts the facial tissues to correct the appearance of lower facial wrinkles. This process achieves a smoother complexion.

Tighten Sagging Tissue

Over time, the skin and muscles of the face begin to weaken. Gravity eventually pulls facial tissues downwards, causing loose tissue and sagging. For long-lasting correction, both the underlying muscular structures and the skin need to be treated. Through incisions placed in the hairline, the deep muscular structures are pulled upwards and secured into place using sutures. Excess facial skin is then trimmed away and draped to highlight your new facial contour. This process provides a firmer facial appearance.

Permanently Erase Years From Your Appearance

Facial wrinkles and sagging work in combination to prematurely age your facial appearance. While non-surgical injections can provide temporary correction, they are not a long-term solution for many patients. A facelift provides long-lasting support to the facial tissues to rejuvenate the face and inhibit future sagging and wrinkle formation. Patients that choose facelift surgery are able to achieve a more youthful aesthetic that lasts them years.

Addressing Any Concerns You May Have

Recovery

You will experience some bruising and swelling of the face after the procedure. You will be required to rest with your head in an elevated position for one week following your procedure. Most patients return to work within two weeks of their procedure. You will need to limit your strenuous physical activities for three to four weeks following your surgery. Most major swelling subsides after six weeks, after which time your final results will become visible.

Scars

Dr. Hochstein creates fine incisions in the hairline. This placement helps mask the appearance of your incisions and any scarring that may develop. The extent of your scarring will depend on your body’s natural healing process and other environmental factors. Great care is taken to limit scar formation, and any scarring that does develop is likely to fade overtime.

Cost

The cost of a facelift surgery will vary between patients depending on the extent of correction required to achieve their results. Anesthesia fees, surgical fees, and hospital fees will also affect the cost of your facelift. After your facelift consultation, Dr. Hochstein will be able to provide you with a precise cost of your procedure.

Pain

Following your facelift surgery, it is common to experience some discomfort due to skin tightening. Oral medication can be used to alleviate any associated discomfort. For most patients, their initial discomfort only lasts a few days following their procedure.

Frequently Asked Questions About a Facelift Surgery

What type of anesthesia is used during a facelift surgery?

You will receive general anesthesia during your facelift to ensure your safety and comfort.

Who is a good candidate for a facelift?

Patients considering a facelift should be in good health. People considering a facelift are generally in their late 30s or older and have trouble with skin laxity. A thorough consultation will help determine if you are a good candidate for a facelift.

Will a facelift correct upper facial wrinkles?

No; a facelift surgery is designed to correct signs of aging in the lower two-thirds of the face. However, patients with upper eye and forehead wrinkles can combine a brow lift with their facelift for improved results.

What other procedures can be combined with a facelift?

In addition to the brow lift, eyelid lift and neck lift surgeries are commonly combined with a facelift surgery for overall facial rejuvenation.

How long will my facelift results last?

A facelift provides patients with results that last them years. However, it does not prevent future aging from occurring. It is important to reduce your sun exposure and to refrain from smoking to preserve the quality of your results.

Can I prolong the life of my facelift results?

Some patients choose to undergo routine injectable or laser treatments to prolong their facelift results.
